The .uf2 files are flashed by dragging them onto the USB drive. The .hex file is only for the HolyIoT receiver dongle and is flashed with Nordic's software (instructions below).
Which file should I download?
There are two files for the tracker, one per sensor type. Download the one that matches your unit, or find out in 3 steps using the web terminal:

Connect your tracker to the PC with the USB-C cable.

Open https://terminal.madtrackers.com and click “Connect”. Pick your tracker from the list.

infoin the console and press Enter. The first line shows IMU: and your sensor model: download that file.

Current modelThis is the sensor in new orders. If you bought your pack recently, this is yours.
ICM45686
Earlier models onlyStill published to support older packs. Do not use it on a new tracker.

Installation Instructions

Method 1: Connect in Bootloader Mode (Recommended)Press and hold the action button on your madTracker while connecting it to your PC via USB-C cable. Keep the button pressed until the device appears as a storage drive.

Method 2: Use Web Terminal (Alternative)If Method 1 doesn't work: Connect the tracker via USB-C, open https://terminal.madtrackers.com, click 'Connect', select your tracker from the list, type 'DFU' in the console and press Enter. The tracker will enter bootloader mode.

Locate the DriveUsing either method, a new drive will appear in your file explorer. It will be labeled as a removable storage device.

Flash the FirmwareDrag and drop the .uf2 file you downloaded above (the one matching your sensor: LSM6DSV or ICM45686) onto the drive. The device updates automatically and disconnects when it finishes.
💡 Tip: If Method 1 doesn't work (drive doesn't appear when holding the button), use Method 2 with the web terminal. Make sure your browser has permission to access serial devices.
Receiver

Connect the ReceiverConnect your receiver to your PC using a USB-C cable.

Open Web TerminalNavigate to https://terminal.madtrackers.com in your web browser.

Connect to DeviceClick the 'Connect' button and select your receiver from the list of available devices. Once connected, you'll see a terminal console.

Enter DFU ModeType 'DFU' in the terminal console and press Enter. The receiver will enter bootloader mode and appear as a storage drive in your file explorer.

Flash the FirmwareDrag and drop the .uf2 file (madTrackers-receiver-ProMicro.uf2) onto the drive. The receiver updates automatically and reconnects once complete.
💡 Tip: Make sure your browser has permission to access serial devices. Chrome and Edge are recommended for the best experience.
HolyIoT Receiver Dongle (Windows only)
HolyIoT Receiver (antenna)
The HolyIoT receiver with antenna does not use the drag-and-drop method: it is updated with Nordic Semiconductor's free software. It takes 6 steps.

Download and install Nordic's softwareDownload “nRF Connect for Desktop” with the button below (it is free), run the installer and open it. If Windows asks permission to install drivers, allow it.

Install the “Programmer” appInside nRF Connect for Desktop you will see a list of apps. Find “Programmer” and click “Install”. Wait for it to finish, then click “Open”.

Plug in the dongle and put it in update modePlug the HolyIoT dongle into a USB port on your PC. Then move a magnet close to the back of the dongle (it triggers an internal switch). The red light will start “breathing”; that means it is ready to be updated. Move the magnet away (more than 30 cm) so it does not reset again.

Select the dongle in ProgrammerGo back to Programmer and click “Select device” at the top left. Choose the dongle from the list (it appears with its serial number).

Load the .hex fileClick “Add file” and choose the “madTrackers-receiver-HolyIoT.hex” file you downloaded above. If the file shows up in the memory box, it is loaded correctly.

Write the firmwareClick “Write” and wait. When it finishes, the dongle restarts on its own and disappears from the list: it is updated. Unplug it and plug it back in to use it.
🧲 Don't have a magnet?: Plug the dongle into a USB port on the PC. Open terminal.madtrackers.com in Chrome or Edge, click “Connect” and pick the dongle from the list. Type dfu in the console and press Enter: the red light starts “breathing”, just like with the magnet. Then continue from step 4.

💡 Tip: If Windows does not recognise the dongle: unplug it, fully restart with Ctrl+R in nRF Connect, plug it back in and repeat step 3.
⚠️ Important: Do not unplug the dongle or close the program while it says “Writing”: you could damage it. If the dongle does not appear in “Select device”, bring the magnet close again (step 3) and refresh the list.
